Perseverance in Action: What Will Klein Taught Us in Game 3 of the World Series

At Beach City Baseball Academy, we believe the game of baseball is more than just strikes, hits, and home runs. It is a classroom for life. This week, the world witnessed one of the greatest lessons in perseverance and character from an unexpected hero: Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Will Klein.

Not the Star… Until He Was

Will Klein was not a household name. He was not expected to be on the mound in the biggest moment of the season. In fact, he started the year without a guaranteed role and spent months working quietly behind the scenes with no headlines, no spotlight, just hard work, patience, and belief.

Perseverance means staying ready even when your name is not being called. And last night, during an incredible 18-inning Game 3 of the World Series, Will Klein got his moment.

Stepping Up When His Team Needed Him Most

By the 15th inning, nearly every pitcher had been used. The tension was high. The game was tied. The season was on the line.

Will Klein, a player many did not expect to be in that situation, walked onto the mound with calm confidence. Over the next four innings, he delivered scoreless baseball, pitching longer and harder than he ever had before in his entire career. He proved that preparation plus a calm mind leads to success when the pressure is highest.

He was not supposed to be the hero. But perseverance does not ask if you are ready for the spotlight. Perseverance prepares you for it.

What Young Players Can Learn From Will Klein

1. Stay Ready, Even When You Are Not in the Spotlight

You may not pitch every game or start every inning, but champions are made in preparation, effort, and attitude when no one is watching.

2. Perseverance Means Believing in the Big Picture

Will Klein could have been discouraged when he did not make the initial postseason roster. Instead, he kept working, knowing that an opportunity would eventually come and he would be ready for it.

3. Calm Is a Superpower

In a packed stadium with millions watching, he did not panic. He trusted his training. Staying calm allowed him to perform under extreme pressure.

A Lesson for All of Us

Perseverance is not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it is steady and quiet. It is the refusal to give up, the commitment to keep going, and the belief that hard work will pay off.

When your moment comes, you do not rise to the occasion. You rise to the level of your preparation.

At Beach City Baseball Academy

We teach our athletes that the goal is not just to become better baseball players, but to become resilient individuals who can handle life’s biggest moments with confidence, focus, and strength.

Will Klein did not just help his team win a game. He showed the world what it means to stay ready, to be calm under pressure, and to step up when it matters most.

That is what perseverance looks like. And that is what we strive to teach every athlete who walks through our doors.
